Hutt Valley travellers will face delays for the rest of the day as KiwiRail works to repair damage which has ended train travel in the area.
All train services on the Hutt Valley line are being replaced by buses between Taita and Petone, after a train hit a pole in Lower Hutt last night.
A KiwiRail spokesperson said about 150m of overhead electrical wire needed to be replaced.
Evening commuters were being urged to make alternative arrangements for their journey home.
Melling and Wairarapa trains would be running but could experience some delays until the Hutt Valley Line was fully reopened, the spokesperson said.
Services on the Johnsonville Line were running up to 10 minutes late.
KiwiRail expects the repairs to be completed and normal services to resume by tomorrow morning.
