Partygoers throughout the country are being warned to brace themselves for a wet New Year's Eve.
MetService said rain is expected to sweep through New Zealand, and looks likely to stick around for the countdown in popular party spots like Gisborne, Mount Maunganui, and Queenstown.
A Metservice spokesperson, John Law, said revellers may want to bring their raincoats but the rain should clear in most of the country on New Year's Day.
Showers will be slower to ease from the top of the North Island.
