A man in his early 30s has sparked a measles scare in Auckland after visiting several shopping centres during the school holidays.
The city's Regional Public Health Service said the man was infectious when he visited Kmart and The Warehouse in Manukau, Countdown at Airport Oaks and Middlemore Emergency Department on 9 April.
Medical Officer of Health Dr Julia Peters said the case was particularly concerning, given that the man had not travelled overseas recently and must have contracted the measles in Auckland.
She said if people were infected, they will start to notice symptoms similar to the common cold over the coming weekend or early next week.
"If people are going to become ill that will probably start happening over the weekend and into next week."
