Fire crews stretched during factory blaze

7:29 am on 16 July 2008

Almost every fire engine in Christchurch was called to a big blaze at the former Tip Top ice-cream factory on Tuesday night.

The half-demolished building on Blenheim Road was well alight when nine engines and 36 firefighters arrived just after 11pm.

While crews were busy, volunteer brigades were put on standby to cover the city.

One crew is still damping down this morning.
