Leading journalist and broadcaster John Campbell is feeling the butterflies, just a little bit, on his first day back at Radio New Zealand (RNZ).

It was announced last month that Campbell, whose first job as a journalist was with RNZ in 1989, is to front a proposed multi-media, drive-time news and current affairs programme.
In his first morning in the office, Campbell said he was excited, but a bit nervous about building on the great work done by Checkpoint.
"We're going to honour the outstanding history of Checkpoint by continuing to do the kind of work they've been doing, so well, for almost half a century. No compromises! But whilst we're retaining Checkpoint's commitment to journalism, we're determined to get it to more people. Serious journalism matters. It deserves an audience. On the radio, online, everywhere we can find people. Tell important stories to New Zealanders. That's what I'm here to do."
