He was a four-decade veteran of the advertising industry and founder of the agency Whybin TBWA Group.
The agency was best known for the ASB Bank's 'Goldstein' campaign - one of the longest-running uninterrupted advertising campaigns in New Zealand.
Mr Walden's career stretched back to what he described as the Mad Men days of the advertising industry.
His family describe him as a much loved father, husband and friend and say he died peacefully on Saturday morning.
He is survived by his wife Annie and two children Joanna and Michael.
