Toyota says a recall of cars in Japan built by its Daihatsu subsidiary does not affect new vehicles in New Zealand but may be a problem for used imports.
Daihatsu says that about 270,000 Hijet, Atari, Mira and Move vehicles have problems with front suspension, a fuel hose and rear brake lights.
Toyota New Zealand says the models that need fixing are not sold here but it's working with the Transport Agency to check whether any used imports are in the country.
The Mira used to be sold new in New Zealand, but those older cars are not affected.
