Whanganui police have arrested six people over the death of a 57-year-old man overnight.
Officers were called to a home in the suburb of Gonville last night, where a man was reported to have been seriously assaulted.
The man was treated by ambulance staff but later died in Whanganui Hospital.
Police launched a homicide inquiry and confirmed a short time ago that six people have been taken into custody.
Police said the assault was connected to a dispute between individuals who are known to each other.
A post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow.
The victim's name will not be released until next of kin are advised.
Police said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the assault, but would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any disturbance or disorder in the Rimu Street area last night.
