Hospitality New Zealand believes moteliers would be open to the government pre-purchasing motel rooms to help people in need of housing, provided they know exactly who is staying.

Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett said yesterday the government was considering pre-purchasing motel rooms to help people in the most critical need.
She said the plan would mostly cover the winter period.
Hospitality New Zealand's general manager of accommodation, Rachael Shadbolt, said some moteliers would be open to the proposal, but they might be picky.
"Moteliers would be asking a few questions about the guests who were coming in, just so that they knew the size of the family.
"They would want to be making sure that whoever they're taking within their property isn't going to change the environment or cause any concern for any other guests."
