Hundreds of passengers evacuated from Wellington Airport are now back inside the terminal.
The airport was evacuated for about 15 minutes after a sprinkler was knocked by a contractor in the baggage area at 6.20pm, triggering the fire alarm.
People were forced to wait outside until the Fire Service arrived and gave the all clear.
The airport's communications manager Greg Thomas said the incident caused minor disruptions to flights.
The airport will look at how the contractor, who was driving a vehicle, was able to hit the sprinkler, he said.
