Manawatu Gorge on State Highway 3 in the central North Island is expected to reopen by the weekend after slips forced the route's closure.
The Saddle Road and Pahiatua Track can be used as alternative routes.
The Transport Agency says rainfall has caused the series of slips, which have blocked the road about halfway into the gorge.
