James Rolleston, the star of the hit New Zealand film Boy, is in a stable condition in hospital after being seriously injured in a car crash.
Rolleston, 19, was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after the car he was in hit the Otara Bridge near Opotiki in Bay of Plenty late on Tuesday night.
Another 19-year-old Opotiki man suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Rolleston is in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit, a Waikato district health board spokeswoman said.
Rolleston starred in the 2010 film Boy, written and directed by Taika Waititi, and had later roles in The Dark Horse and The Dead Lands, released in 2014.
In response to the news of Rolleston's injuries,The Dead Lands director Toa Fraser tweeted his support.
