Police are searching for a man who assaulted a petrol station attendant with a machete during an aggravated robbery in Napier.
Police said the man entered the Mobil petrol station on Taradale Road around 9.30pm on Monday.
He demanded the attendant hand over cigarettes and tobacco before striking him with the machete, cutting his arm.
The man fled when a member of the public entered the store.
Police said they want anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or witnessed the incident to contact the Napier police.
