A man has drowned while swimming at a resort in Rotorua this morning.

Police were notified at about 9.30am and ambulance staff worked on the man for more than an hour.
Bay of Plenty Senior Sergeant Mike Membrey said the man was a visitor to Rotorua who was swimming in a pool at the Regal Palms Resort, while staying there.
He said there was no indication of how the man got into difficulty.
The incident has been referred to the coroner.
Police are now notifying next of kin.
