The Council of Trade Unions have announced a civic service will be held in Wellington to celebrate the life of union leader Helen Kelly, who died yesterday of lung cancer.
The service will be held at the Michael Fowler Centre in the central city at 1pm on Friday, 28 October.
Before the event there will be a private farewell for family only.
Politicians, unionists and business leaders have joined forestry workers and families of the Pike River mine disaster victims in praising Ms Kelly's unwavering commitment to workers' rights.
Wellington Mayor Justin Lester said time had been reserved in the 2000-seat Michael Fowler Centre.
Mr Lester said the service would give the community a chance to remember a great fighter, a great campaigner for workers rights and a great Wellingtonian.
The farewell will be live streamed at the CTU's website.
