One person has died and another is in a critical condition following a serious two-car crash on State Highway 3, south of Te Kuiti.
Police, fire and ambulance are all at the scene, near Piopio, and a helicopter is on the way.
Police said the road was closed between Hunt Road and Moa Street, and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
St John Ambulance said a third person was in a moderate condition.
