A driver is in a critical condition after a car crashed through a railway track barrier and down a bank in Wellington this afternoon.
Members of the public stayed with the driver until police arrived at the scene, on Middleton Road near Johnsonville.
A rescue helicopter took the driver to hospital.
The road, which links Johnsonville and Tawa, is currently closed.
