A stabbing on Christmas day in Christchurch has now been upgraded from an assault to a homicide after the victim died of his wounds.
Hardeep Singh, 26, was stabbed on Sunday afternoon at a property in the suburb of Cashmere.
A 22-year-old woman was arrested that day and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney said detectives and victim support were liasing closely with Mr Singh's family, many of whom were based in India.
A post mortem would be conducted tomorrow.
Police said the woman will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow, where her original charge will be replaced.
