A man charged after a woman was found critically injured on the side of a road north of Auckland has admitted to her attempted murder, on the morning of his trial.

Wayne Edward Blackett is due to go on trial with four others over the woman's kidnapping and assault.
At the High Court in Auckland this morning, Wayne Blackett admitted charges of kidnapping and attempted murder, relating to the incident in Dome Valley in May last year.
He still faces charges of assault and sexual violation.
Four others also face varying charges.
The trial before Justice Whata and a jury is set down for four weeks.
