More than 30 firefighters tackled the blaze in Popes Road, Takanini, this evening.
A spokesman, Paul Radden, said a special hose-laying unit had been brought in because there was limited water for fighting fires in the semi-rural area.
St John Ambulance said two people with moderate and minor injuries were taken to Middlemore Hospital.
