Engineers fixing a bridge in Wairau Valley have accidentally cut through a fibre-optic cable causing a banking and Eftpos outages in the Marlborough area.
Motorists are being asked to avoid State Highway 63 after a truck hit Wye Bridge just before six o'clock this morning 6am today.
The driver was flown to hospital with moderate injuries.
The bridge is expected to be closed for most of the day and the alternative route will only be passable if weather conditions are favourable.
