A person has died in a house fire in the Christchurch suburb of Linwood.

Emergency services were called to the property, on Cashel Street, just before 4am.
Crews from three fire engines arrived to find the house well ablaze.
Fire shift manager Riwai Grace said they went to work quickly to tackle the fire but it was too late to save the person inside.
The sole occupant died and the house was destroyed.
Police and fire investigators will carry out a scene examination.
