Auckland woman aims for trans-Tasman rowing solo

10:15 am on 21 June 2010

An Auckland woman has launched a campaign to become the first woman to row solo across the Tasman Sea from Australia to New Zealand.

Anamarie Ewins says she was inspired by Shaun Quincey's successful crossing in March.

She says she is trying to raise about $80,000 to help with the expedition and hopes to start rowing from Australia in December.

Ms Ewins says the fact another female contender is campaigning to row the Tasman is also spurring her on.
