People have been allowed back into Auckland University's medical campus after a chemical spill forced evacuations on Thursday night.
A Fire and Emergency spokesman Daniel Nicholson said liquid nitrogen leaked at the medical and health science building at the university's Grafton campus.
"A major amount of liquid nitrogen has leaked ... we're not sure of the exact quantity that has leaked," he said.
At least 13 fire crews were dispatched to contain the spill, which has now been isolated.
