A health warning has been issued for parts of two rivers in South Canterbury, where high levels of potentially toxic blue-green algae have been found.
The region's district health board is advising people to stay away from the Ōpihi River at Waipopo Huts and the Waihi River at the Wilson Street footbridge in Geraldine, until the warning is lifted.
Animals, particularly dogs, should be kept away.
The regional council is monitoring the sites and the public will be updated on any changes.
