MetService has this morning issued a heavy rain warning for Auckland, Great Barrier Island, Northland south of Whangarei and Coromandel Peninsula.
The small but intense low will bring rain and thunderstorms, and is expected to start later this morning and continue for the rest of the day.
MetService is predicting 70 millimetres of rain will fall over 12 hours.
There's also more rain forecast for the West Coast this afternoon, but it's expected to be just light showers.

This is a signal for heavy rain for Auckland, eastern Waikato & perhaps southern Northland regions into Sunday. There will likely be a sharp cut-off between heavy rain & little rain. Need to watch flood risk. . ~Chris pic.twitter.com/IoHI6L88za
