Train services between the capital and the Kāpiti Coast may face some delays after a digger hit a rail overbridge at the Ngauranga Gorge.
Police said the digger's cab hit the bridge just before 5am but it was cleared within 45 minutes.
Metlink said this morning all services between Wellington and the coast were suspended, and two trains heading into the capital - the 5am and 5.30am services - were stopped at Porirua.
About 6am Metlink said the tracks had been cleared for service and all services would resume.
There had been speed restrictions on the line and Metlink warned of possible delays, but it said services had since resumed as normal.
