The police are investigating the overnight break-in, which resulted in two monkeys ending up in the next door enclosure with the golden lion tamarins.
Staff at the zoo say that could've resulted in disaster and they're incredibly upset at the forethought and sophistication which has gone into the break-in.
Staff initially thought a squirrel monkey had been taken during the break-in, but later discovered it hiding in its enclosure.
Wellington Zoo is also running an internal investigation into the incident.
