The death of a man in a Whanganui neighbourhood has shocked nearby residents.
Police have launched a homicide investigation after the body of a man in his 50s was found at a house on Wikitoria Road in Whanganui.
A second man, also in his 50s, had serious injuries and was transported to Whanganui Hospital, they said.
Resident Kay Donald said there was a heavy police presence in the street and it appeared two properties had been cordoned off.
Ms Donald says it was a quiet neighbourhood, and the report of a death had shaken residents.
"As far as I know nothing has ever happened around this road," she said.
"It's been a really good neighbourhood. I've lived here for years."
