A woman remains in a serious condition in hospital after being shot in Tauranga last night.
Emergency services were called to Christopher Street shortly before 6.30 last night.
A resident told RNZ she initially thought she had heard a firecracker going off.
She did not realise what the noise actually was until her neighbour, who had alerted police, rang her to tell her that it was a gun shot.
Police are carrying out a scene examination today.
