A man has died after an assault in the Hutt Valley suburb of Taita.
Police said they were called to reports of a fight between a group of men on High Street at 7.45pm tonight.
A man suffered critical injuries, and died at the scene, they said.
One person has been arrested and taken into custody.
A scene guard will be in place overnight, and people are asked to avoid High Street between Burcham and Macky streets.
