Two people in a Papamoa home were assaulted by men armed with an axe and crowbar in a burglary early today.
Police said two men entered house on Waterford Park Drive about 4.30am.
One had an axe and the other was wielding a crowbar.
Police said they assaulted a man and a woman in the house, who received minor injuries but did not require ambulance treatment.
The men left in two cars they stole from the property,
The vehicles were later recovered nearby and are being examined.
Police say the men had specifically targeted the property.
