Two men have been charged with the murder of Christchurch man Shayne Heappey.
The police charged a 31-year-old overnight, and he appeared in the Dunedin District Court this morning. The man will reappear in the High Court at Christchurch in February.
A 29-year-old man in Christchurch has also been charged with the murder and is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday.
Mr Heappey died in Christchurch Hospital on 8 December after he had been dropped off at the hospital suffering serious injuries.
Last week, Christchurch police and specialist forensic staff searched properties in Stanbury Avenue, Somerfield, and Oakhurst Place, Russley during their inquiry into Mr Heappey's death.
A 50-year-old man appeared in the Christchurch District Court last week accused of stabbing Mr Heappey with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He will reappear on 11 January.
Police will today complete the forensic scene investigation at the Somerfield address.
"This has been a fast-moving enquiry with an investigation team that's worked tirelessly to locate those responsible for the death of Mr Heappey," said Detective Inspector Corrie Parnell.
"Police would like to thank the community for their assistance and reassure them that this was an isolated incident."
