A man has been shot in the leg at a Wairarapa campground in what the police believe may have been retaliation for a family harm incident.
Police said a group of men arrived at the Ngawi camp site on the night of Sunday 16 December and confronted a 46-year-old man who was staying there.
After a short verbal exchange, a shot was fired by one of the group, hitting the man in the thigh.
He was taken to Wairarapa Hospital and was discharged the next day.
Police said the offenders knew the victim and believed the incident may have been in retaliation for a family harm incident that occurred in Martinborough earlier in the evening.
Police want to hear from any witnesses or anyone who may have CCTV footage from the main arterial route between Martinborough and Ngawi, showing vehicles travelling to or from the camp site that night.
