A van crash on State Highway 2 between Wellington and Petone has caused long traffic delays this afternoon.

The crash happened at 11:40am and the driver was initially reported to be trapped inside the van.
The driver is now hospitalised at Hutt Hospital with moderate injuries.
NZTA said the site was cleared and lanes reopened by 1pm, but there were still long delays.
Traffic had been backed up for about 1km on the northbound lanes.
