New Zealand is continuing to swelter after temperature records began to fall yesterday.
The expected heat prompted health warnings yesterday as Richmond with its highest minimum temperature and wider Nelson's warmest January temperature since records began 157 years ago.
Yesterday's scorching temperatures look set to be repeated today in many parts of the country, with Waikato and the King Country expected to be the hottest spots.
Taumarunui and Te Kūiti are expected to reach 34C and Hamilton is set to hit 33C.
MetService forecaster elissa Oosterwijk said people should prepare for another hot and humid day.
Meanwhile in the capital, fog has shut down some flights.
