Striking junior doctors will be meeting with their District Health Board (DHB) employers for mediation on Monday.
Thousands of junior doctors walked off the job early yesterday after negotiations between their union, the Resident Doctors Association, and the DHBs, reached a deadlock.
The DHBs want junior doctors in the association to give up the right to veto rosters and training arrangements.
The employers say the options they have already agreed with the other junior doctors' union, Specialty Trainees of New Zealand, support better care and safe work practices.
The strike will finish at 8am tomorrow.
