A 37-year-old woman has been charged with murdering a man after shots were fired in a rural area north west of Auckland last night.

Police were called about 2am this morning to a South Head address, after reports of gunfire.
A 52-year-old man was found dead at the house, about an hour and a half north-west of central Auckland, on the Kaipara Harbour.
Police said a woman was found nearby and arrested.
She is due to appear at the Waitakere District Court this afternoon.
