Two people are dead and three have been badly injured in a two car crash at Mangatainoka near Palmerston North.
The accident happened near the intersection of State Highway 2 and Kohinui Road.
Of the three injured, one was in a critical condition and two others were in a serious condition. One person was flown to Wellington Hospital.
The intersection is right outside the Tui brewery.
Police said the road was closed and diversions were in place.
The deaths mean that fourteen people have died on the roads in the past four days.
