A ute has crashed into a truck near Peka Peka on the Kāpiti Coast after being chased by police when it failed to stop.

Police said they tried to stop the ute on State Highway 1 just before 6am, and when it continued they followed it, using the lights and sirens on the police car.
During the chase in the southbound lane, the ute turned around and started travelling north in the southbound lane.
The vehicle crashed into a truck north of Peka Peka, about 10 minutes after the officers first attempted to stop it.
Two people had minor injuries and one person was taken into custody, police said.
State Highway one north of Paraparaumu has reopened after the crash.
While the road is back open, the Transport Agency says traffic is backed up towards Otaki.
