Auckland-Coromandel Peninsula ferry to be scrapped

3:02 pm on 15 March 2009

A ferry service between Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula is being scrapped from April 14.

Lianne Clarke is a spokesperson for the operating company, 360 Discovery, and she says the company failed in its attempts to get central and local government funding to save the Coromandel service.

She says it has made a loss for several years and the recession has made the situation worse.

Ms Clarke says the company's services to Tiritiri Matangi Island, Motuihe Island and between the Gulf Harbour and Auckland City will remain.
