Appeal for witnesses after Southland taxi driver robbed

6:25 pm on 3 August 2019

Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was threatened and robbed on Ythan Street in Invercargill just before 7pm yesterday.

They say the taxi was stopped on Ythan Street, between Tyne and Forth Streets, when four young men approached the car, threatening the driver with a screwdriver.

The driver was unharmed.

Police said the men - who are thought to be between 14 and 18 years old - stole cash and fled on foot into the Otepuni Gardens.

Police said one of the offenders was about 182cm tall, of slim build, and was wearing a dark hoodie, a dark bandanna with a white print, and blue latex gloves.

Police believe the robbery may be linked to a series of vehicle break-ins in the Nith, Wood and Forth Street areas.
