A second New Zealander affected by the eruption, a White Island tour guide and marine biologist, has been identified.
Kelsey Waghorn was guiding a group on Whakaari/ White Island when it erupted. It is understood she is in a critical condition, in an induced coma in hospital.
A Give A Little page said Ms Waghorn had full-thickness burns to 45 percent of her body, and was having surgery every two to three days for skin grafts.
It said she had been a tour guide with the company for five years, and is a passionate marine biologist.
