The Desert Road has reopened this morning after a pedestrian was hit by a car late last night.

Emergency services were called just after 10pm to State Highway One near Mount Ruapehu.
A helicopter was sent to take the person to hospital, but it's not yet clear how serious their injuries are.
The road was reopened by 8am.
Police said it could be closed again later this morning to allow access for crash investigators.
