The police are looking at stepping up patrols in the Western Bay of Plenty after two shootings in Tauranga and Te Puke.
They said a large number of shots were fired at a house in the Tauranga suburb of Hairini early this morning and this afternoon shots were fired at a house in Te Puke.
The Armed Offenders Squad attended the area, as did the Police Eagle helicopter.
On Monday a house in the suburb of Greeton in Tauranga was gutted by fire.
No one has been injured so far.
"We are investigating each of these incidents separately, as well as any possible links between them, and any potential gang involvement," Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said.
Turner said they were looking at increasing patrols to stop any repeat and to reassure the public about their safety.
