Police are searching for a 51-year-old man who failed to stop for a routine check shortly before 9.30am today.
Police pursued the vehicle for about half an hour before deploying spikes, causing the driver to flee on foot near Tutoko Lane.
The Armed Offenders Squad is assisting in the search as well as police dogs.
State Highway 94 is closed between the intersections with Sandy Brown and Kakapo roads.
St John confirmed an ambulance is on the scene.
