The dog handler's femur was broken when the car crashed into his vehicle in Manurewa last Friday.

The male driver of the fleeing car is in a stable but critical condition in hospital, while the female passenger is stable.

The police officer underwent surgery and was discharged from hospital yesterday.

His dog was not injured.

Police continue to investigate the crash and say they are not able to rule out laying charges.
