The Defence Force has told the government that Bluetooth contact tracing technology may result in "false contacts" or fail to record contact.

Officials have been looking into whether to augment the Covid-19 tracer app - that uses QR codes you scan - with bluetooth technology, that relies on proximity alerts.
Usually it is employed in cellphones that register other enabled phones close by.
The Defence Technology Agency sent a paper about proximity alerts to the National Crisis Management Centre and Health Ministry.
"We understand the paper will be published in due course on the DTA website, but the main finding is that proximity estimates using Bluetooth may result in false contacts or miss actual contacts," the ministry told RNZ in a statement.
