The Ministry for Culture and Heritage wants to build the air crash memorial in Parnell's Dove-Myer Robinson Park, in the face of some local opposition.

It already has resource consent.

It then applied to Heritage New Zealand to be allowed to build in the park, which marks a former residence of Sir John Logan Campbell.

Heritage NZ approved it, noting the site has been damaged in the past, but may still possess important archaeological and heritage landscape values.
