Police seize 25 firearms from North Shore property, charge two people

Police have seized dozens of firearms from a property on the North Shore and charged two people.

Two search warrants were carried out in Wairau Valley last week on Friday after an investigation into firearms and drug offending.

Police found 25 firearms of various calibres, including a large number of prohibited military style semi-automatic firearms, a shotgun and a pistol at one of the properties.

Boxes of ammunition and a quantity of methamphetamine were also found.

A large amount of ammunition was also found at the second property as well as more than 50 cannabis plants.

A 54-year-old man is facing a number of firearm charges, including unlawfully possessing a prohibited firearm, as well as possession of methamphetamine.

He is due to appear in the North Shore District Court next month.

Another 54-year-old man is facing firearms and cannabis-related charges, and is due to appear in the district court this week.
